This ‘Friends of Hue’ wireless switch is based on the newest ZigBee 3.0-protocol. The switch can be used with the Hue-app and can both switch the lights on/off and dimm the lights (up/down).

Zigbee is a communication protocol which can connect smart devices to each other. A so called “mesh” network.
Zigbee is smart, safe and has a low energy consumption. The difference with other protocols is that ZigBee not only connects with a central point, but also with each other. This way the range is increased and they can take over each other’s function. Each ZigBee module has a repeater so a signal can be sent back. Usefull for when no one is home and there is motion detected for example. Zigbee can communicate with Hue, Alexa and Homey for example.
